@sdimmigrationlawyer: The Trump administration is warning migrant sponsors to take financial responsibility for them or expect to be slapped with steep fines, lawsuits, or even prosecution. American citizens who sponsor migrants that end up using taxpayer-funded benefits like food stamps or housing assistance will be held financially liable and could even face criminal charges, according to a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) memo #uscis #immigrationlawyer #immigrationnews #trump
Most of us are not on assistance, it’s mostly the US born who abuse these benefits.

This not new. The whole point of a sponsor is to say you will take care of this person’s needs for s certain amount of time. How do I know? Because my family has done this for other family members coming here

As an immigrant, I totally support going after sponsors. What’s the point of bringing your family member when you can’t afford taking care of them? You simply can’t rely on someone else to pay for your relatives…

I have sponsored someone in the past and this is in the form and this is already been in place since the 90s. Took few decades to enforce it though.

so if an illegal immigrant has a child in the US while being sponsored, and the child is on public assistance, can they still go after the sponsor too? Since im sure they didnt pay for the birth of that child.

These arent new rules, has been there for decades....I sponsored my wife and I remember clearly signing the document under the penalty of perjury. 3rd world mentality seems to think rules dont apply...thats why their countries are hosed
