They (the U.S. FWS) want the public to believe this is about “saving” Spotted Owls, but it has never truly been about owls. Now, 450,000 Barred Owls are marked for eradication, lured by recordings of their mate or young, only to be met with a bullet. The narrative is that one species is “invasive,” yet both Barred and Spotted Owls interbreed naturally, while Great Horned Owls prey on both and outnumber them combined. I’m team every owl, but no owl deserves what is currently begun for the Barred Owls!
