It’s literally my first wedding anniversary today and I also moved my maiden to my middle and I’m still so unused to first name new last name. It’s nice to hear this

This is really interesting because there is no divorce in my family or my husbands family but I never seriously considered changing my name. It felt too weirdly performative TO do it. I just didn’t want to & he was fully supportive

This is fascinating thank you for sharing!! My mom kept her name and as an adult I was shocked to hear she wished she hadn't because it was simply an inconvenient and irritating drag to not have the same name as us (three kids). I never thought I'd want to change my name when I got married but now that I'm actually in a serious relationship it doesn't seem as wild. But to me it seems like if I changed my name it would really seem like someone else's name.

I have always thought I’d never change my name after I married. So far I’ve kept my name but I’m not actively opposed to taking my husbands name in the future. I’m glad the option is always going to be there!

my dad was hardly in my life, but i have his last name. when I get married Im taking my moms family last name and hypenating it with my partners last name to make my new last name lol. I’ve always loved the idea of getting rid of that last connection to my dad. on all my social media, since highschool, ive only gone by my first and middle name ☺️I am a teacher though. with my dads last name I get to be called the same thing his mom(my grandma) was called when she was a teacher. loved the connection to her but now she’s gone and it’s just my dad and i’m ready to say goodbye to his last name.

Interesting that your surname became your middle name rather than hyphenating it. I already have two middle names so that wasn’t really an option haha when I got married this year, my husband took my surname too so we both have both! We’re so happy with our choice, it suits us and feels more equal… and luckily Tucker-Davis isn’t too long. He has to keep reminding people about his name change though.

I was definitely sad at first but I also felt like I grew up and accomplished so much as my maiden name… got a phd and had a positive impact on people I met, but now with my new name I feel refreshed and ready to make a new name for myself in other ways. Just wholeheartedly being an amazing wife (maybe a mom who knows) and continuing to make a positive impact where I can. I’m still me but now with a new title. I’m thinking of getting a tattoo of my maiden name though!

I never thought about how experiencing divorce would make you think so much about this. lol the name my mom gave me sounds so iconic and my husband’s last name is terrible so I was always gunna stay me 🤷🏾♀

Getting married soon and we still don’t know what to do…I don’t really like my surname but his is a MESS 😭 we can’t mash them together either, we’ve tried. Considering picking from the family trees at this point because otherwise what do we DOOO.

I really didn’t know what to do with my name when I got married! I’ve ended up picking what I like to call the “secret third option” where we collectively are “the durhams” I introduced myself as “Julie Rogers Durham” but legally I didn’t change anything so at work it’s the same, which is also my main social circle. So far so good!

I chose to change my name when I got married and now I’ve had my married name longer than my maiden name. It definitely feels more like my name now, especially since I share it with my kids. My parents are also divorced and my mom is remarried but still has my dad’s last name.
