As an anesthesiologist the scalpel is one that bothers me a little in every movie or show I watch. When the surgeon makes incision, there’s never that much blood coming out instantly as the blade glides. What ends up happening is the scalpel is so sharp that the skin splits cleanly and blood oozes out slowly and takes a couple of seconds to bead and bleed enough to form a drop.

Always thought those scalpels looked pretty unconvincing on film - the blood is too obviously on the surface and there immediately which isn’t how it would really work. Still, cheaper than making a fake limb with blood inside it.
