the lefts mistake is recognizing humanity in the right that does not exist. however, the right recognizes this, and takes advantage of it, using the lefts empathy as a weapon

You found your way into my feed and I feel like you’re already pushing me away. Does it need to be so asymmetrical? Or is it your opinion that I am hopeless?

The left shoots people it disagrees with, have we not learned the lesson of Charlie? Antifa stabs and puts people on fire. I was told by leftists that we all should he dead because white men are racists.

I argue with my liberal friends all the time about this. I don’t know why they feel that they have to win everyone over.

lol rough take. Conservative here. Always open to having a conversation, but the left is so holier than thou, that when ever we have a conversation and the metrics don’t align, then they are “wasting their energy”

I have been arguing for years that the right is not operating in good faith. Anytime I hear Democrats talk about bipartisanship, I get sick to my stomach. You cannot have bipartisanship with people who are acting in bad faith. The groups that now comprise the Republican Party are groups that are acting only in their own self interest, not the interest of anyone unlike them or the country itself. But they still use the language of freedom and liberty, and claim they are the ones following the constitution. And they have learned and been using the tactic of blaming the other for decades. Teaching people to vote against their own self interest in the name of hate and fear.

whats missing from your analysis is that winning power in the USA is not the same on the left and right. Because of the electoral college the right can double down on their base in certain states but the left has to build a broader coalition.

I think its two things. 1. Overall, more people lean right than left, so the left always needs to compromise to win. 2. The left is generally about bringing people together so will try to represent both sides, whilst the right are happy to just represent the interest of themselves.

I think a big part of it is ‘liberals’ and ‘the left’ getting conflated. The Democrats are just as concerned with holding onto their own brute economic power as anyone on the right. Don’t think there really is any meaningful introspection going on and anything that does challenge the system as is is branded “radical”

That actually did happen in 2012 after they lost the second time to Obama. They spent about a year with a commission preparing a report on how they could fix their mistakes and the commission concluded they needed to soften their stances and language and also embrace immigration. And then Trump took over the party.

Absolutely 💯 take. The left and right are playing two different games. The left is constantly asking, “how can we message our ideas better to get more people on our side?” (without realizing turnout, not swing voters are the key). The right is always asking, “how can we make sure there are less people voting against us?”

No, it's because the right wing is made up of a few very large groups. They don't have to coalition build as much as liberals, who are made up of many many groups. We have to think about building bridges, the right doesn't because of demographics.

Technically, after mitt lost they did have that convo, and they got the reports back that said they needed to moderate their message & be less racist/sexist, and THEN they collectively said “NAW” and tripled down and now we have trump…you’re still correct, but they thought about it for half a second.
