Just for other comments, research has actually shown that creatine doesn’t really impact TOTAL body water retention. Water retention is typically noticed in the loading phases (first few days) of taking creatine. The reason creatine would contribute to water retention is due to a sodium dependent creatine transporter. So since that involves sodium, water would be taken up to maintain the intracellular osmolarity, but because of sodium-potassium pumps, it’s unlikely that the intracellular sodium concentration is dramatically affected by creatine supplementation. Studies have been done showing that creatine supplementation has shown no increases in TOTAL body water
