Loafing for a livin’
For the Record: Nail Products and Fire. For anyone who still thinks lighting up their nails makes a fun video transition let’s stop right here. This is not just a bad idea. It is a dangerous one. Nail products are highly flammable by design and once they ignite you cannot blow them out like a birthday candle. They burn until the chemical is gone and the burn will not stop just because you panic and wave your hand. A lot of of you guys doing this have been very lucky! Let’s break it down. Acrylic Systems (Liquid and Powder) The liquid monomer whether EMA is volatile and extremely flammable. The strong smell is vaporized chemical and if it is lit it burns hot and fast. There is no safe way to control it once it starts. Acrylic powder itself does not burn as easily but once it is mixed and uncured it is basically kindling. Gel products contain acrylates and photoinitiators. They are not just plastic. They are reactive chemicals designed to harden under UV or LED light. When you add flame into the mix the chemistry does not behave in a controlled way. It scorches it smokes and it puts off toxic fumes. Even cured gel is not safe to ignite. It chars like plastic because that is what it is. Primers Dehydrators and Cleansers these are some of the most flammable products in the nail space. Many contain acetone isopropyl alcohol or methacrylic acid. One tipped bottle near an open flame creates an instant fire hazard. A spill can create a puddle of accelerant that turns your desk into a bonfire. Here is the worst part. You cannot put it out once it catches. Water does not stop chemical fires. Blowing on it makes it worse. The only thing that ends the flame is when the product has completely burned. That means your skin your desk and your lungs are along for the ride until the chemistry says otherwise. So no this is not cool it is not creative and it is definitely not safe. It is the kind of stunt that lands people in the ER or on the evening news. For the record and let me be crystal clear here nail products are not toys not props and not candle wax. If you want views do something that shows you at least have a brain cell!
