@davechisholmcomics: PARANOID ANDROID by @Radiohead with comic art interpretation. Hi! I’m Dave. I have a doctorate in music (jazz trumpet specifically) and also am a published comic artist and graphic novelist. This is such a huge track in every way. So many sections, so many textures, so many choices of how to interpret it. After I recorded the main vocal/guitar take, I realized the mic was distorting the whole time! I was bummed because I enjoyed the take—so I tried to smooth it over by mixing in a little bit of the audio from my phone and I ended up enjoying the uncanny effect it had. The vocals sound kind of ghostly now and I dig it. I’m not a good enough guitarist to play the shredding solo lines on this so I played them on trumpet put through a distortion pedal, an octave pedal, and a guitar amp. Super fun to learn this one! I played electric trumpet in a band back in like 2004 and it was great to revisit that wild sound. As always with these videos, the underlying vocal and guitar take is a single take not recorded to a click, more about capturing a raw performance than about making something pristine.
