@instituteofhumananatomy: BACK PAIN 101: Why Your Muscles "Rebel" After Yard Work That sudden sharp pain after a weekend of physical activity? Here's what's happening inside your back. THE MECHANISM: Soft tissues supporting your spine - muscles and ligaments - get overstretched, torn, or strained from: +Lifting heavy objects with a twist +Hours of poor posture at your desk +Repetitive movements your body isn't conditioned for Looking at this real cadaver dissection of the right side of the back (trapezius and latissimus dorsi removed), you can see the erector spinae muscle group running parallel to the spine. THE ANATOMY: Three muscles make up the erector spinae: +Iliocostalis +Longissimus +Spinalis Students remember them with "I Love School" or "I Love Sex" (fitting since they ARE the erectors). THEIR JOB: Keep you upright and extended. When you overload them with sudden stress or prolonged poor positioning, these muscles can't handle the demand and respond with pain signals. Your back isn't weak - it's just been asked to do more than it was prepared for in that moment. Prevention: Proper lifting mechanics, regular movement breaks, and building baseline strength through consistent exercise. #BackPain #ErectorSpinae #SpinalAnatomy #BackMuscles #InjuryPrevention #Anatomy #Posture #CadaverDissection
