I thought Emma Watson was a lovely Belle! I had no qualms with the singing in the movie. Just think, lots of Disney animated characters have one person do the speaking voice work, and another do the singing.

Her regards to JK though really put her down in my estimations though by applying her own experiences with her from a young age. I understand relationships as we age are complex but…trans women are literally being harmed by JKs hate speech and Emma came across as trying to be middle of the road

I thought she was a lovely belle and her singing was fine. I think if she had more time to prepare and some lessons on projecting her voice it would've been better but it's nowhere near as bad as people make it sound. I will say her ball gown left lots to be desired especially compared to all the other castle outfits we see at the beginning but that's not her fault it's costuming.

I think all these comments are also disregarding the characterization of Belle as a distinctly “not like other girls” character. Emma Watson was a perfect fit in my opinion BECAUSE she is a controversial feminist figure. Belle wouldn’t wear corsets the same way that a “not like other girls” girl wouldn’t wear a push-up bra or really any bra at all. Belle is kinda obsessed with her being different and not like everyone else. Not to say that Emma Watson is like that irl, but she can very convincingly play that sort of girl. (I also don’t love her singing in that movie but I think it had to do more with the mixing than her actual voice)
