I’ve always felt the AI’s in this universe pose a very interesting questions: is the machine alive? Does being alive mean the same thing as having a soul? It’s a little like Frankenstein and his Creature. The synths are interesting because they have personalities and we’ve seen them have their own desires beyond the desire to live/not be destroyed. The humans in this universe look down on them (for the most part) which is ridiculous because synths are created and shaped in the image of man - perhaps we see the worst of ourselves reflected in them like how the engineers see humans as failures (no true free will as we’re restricted by society and expectations, held hostage by the limitations of our body/biological needs, and you could argue unable to create true untainted connections with others because of our own worries and motivations). David is the most interesting for me - he has a desire to create something, to try to create life. I feel the synths are a reminder of our failures - both because we’ve passed on some of our shortcomings to them and because we tried to make them better, so we see what we could have been reflected as well. That’s just my weird take. AI in general is a cool topic to explore because of the moral and ethical questions it creates. Asimov gave us a great gift.

I saw that when I was a little kid it completely changed my view on humankind and what they are capable of doing. It was just so creepy and so cool at the same time absolutely loved it.🥰
