@twins22weeks: Today marks the end of NICU Awareness Month, on NICU Awareness Day 💜 The NICU really is the ultimate rollercoaster 🎢. We had our twins at 22 weeks, born before “viability.” That word changed everything — and the language used with me during my traumatic, unexpected birth is something I’ll never forget. 💔 We were told our twins were “not viable” and would not survive. Those words will stay with me forever. They’re also the reason I started this page — so that other parents facing preterm labour at 22–23 weeks might find hope in our story. Because yes, 22-weekers can survive and thrive. The NICU is overwhelming. Machines beeping, blue lights glowing, your baby lying in a Perspex box — covered in wires and tubes instead of safe in your tummy. Words like “critical, fragile, unstable” echo around you, alongside medical jargon you’re forced to learn in an instant. It’s terrifying. 💔 But even in the fear, something incredible is happening. The NICU shapes you into your baby’s voice and advocate — not just for those early days, but for the rest of their life. It’s a place of miracles, where angels in scrubs work tirelessly to give tiny babies a chance at tomorrow. To every NICU family — past, present, and future — my heart is with you. 💜 If you’re in the middle of it right now, please hold on.
