Many take “the body keeps the score” as literal truth. But if we could just remove the hips (for an example of where influencers say trauma is stored), would PTSD vanish? Of course not — the information we most readily have is that trauma is encoded in the brain (amygdala, hippocampus etc), not in isolated muscle tissue or fascia. The body reflects trauma — through tension, posture, and physiology — but it doesn’t store it like a hard drive. You can’t just stretch and massage your way to trauma healing.  The less literal interpretations that maybe certain physical sensations trigger, or eh maybe “completing the motion” halted in the fight or flight process could be beneficial, but again the brain mediates stress responses. There is a reason Somatic experiencing (Peter Levine) involves Pendulating toward - and away- from arousal states around some version of the memory for neuroception training, and not just stretching.  *I know people tend not to take this literal view - but you’d be surprised how many coaches I see online selling this exact idea, and the stretches to “heal.”  They say “there’s often a lot of trauma stored in our calves.” Enough from me though; What are your thoughts? ⸻ Disclaimer: My account shares practical psychology and philosophy tips for better mental wellness and life satisfaction. 🔹This is my coaching account.
