(take this with a grain of salt bc i didn't get very far in the class lol) i took an ASL class and this reminds me of how we were taught to tell stories! for example, if you were telling a story about like, walking around the corner and bumping into someone and dropping an armful of groceries, you wouldn't "translate" that word by word. instead, you would first set up the scene spatially, like "here's the grocery store, here's Frank, here's me, i'm holding an armful of groceries." after you've established the scene, then you start signing the action, like "me, carrying groceries - walk walk walk - turn the corner - walk walk - OOPS bump into Frank - drop groceries, bags hit the ground"

Don't forget the 180 rule yall! keeps your characters clear on first glance without having to focus on if its the same character or not, which can often take your reader out of the story
