GO to my Profile + tap 🔗 + type “New Year’s Eve Tinsel Tree” into the search bar. Last year this New Year's Eve Tinsel Tree went viral! If you took a peek at the comments you know that there was a big split between people who loved and hated it. Then the trolls attacked it, and rather than turning off comments I blocked/deleted the worst (there is no need for foul language over something like this). Honestly, this Tinsel Curtain New Year’s Eve Decor was a much-debated topic in our own family. I had seen the trend to use a tinsel curtain instead of the traditional tinsel weeks previously (in 2022) and thought it would be a great alternative to messy tinsel as a fun way to decorate our Christmas tree after Christmas for New Year's Eve. When I mentioned it to my sister she said she had seen the trend online and thought it looked funny. I later told Roger of my plans and he immediately encouraged me AWAY from the idea. Neither my sister nor my husband could deter me from the idea that it would look awesome on our 12-foot Christmas tree. Honestly, I was so smug about it as I started hanging the curtain on the tree. But you know what they say about pride… As Roger hung the last piece at the top I stepped back and realized that I had made a huge mistake. Humility washed over me and all I could do was laugh at how wrong I had been. It may have looked better if I had used less, layered them more, or used thinner tinsel, but as it was, it wasn’t how I pictured it. I apologized for being wrong and Roger offered to take it down, but at that point, I decided to just go with it. I was hoping that this would be a reminder to me as we moved into the new year to be more humble, to listen more to the advice of the ones I trust, and to let go and keep moving forward when things don’t go according to plan. The good news is, that it looks much better at night, at least in real life. My sweet mother was playing with little Roger Dale while we worked and kindly said that it looked like something a fancy hotel would do for New Year’s Eve. After it went viral, and the trolls came trolling into the comments, I realized that hurt people try to hurt people. And I had two choices, let the hurtful comments and messages take root inside of me. Or let the pain in this world push me forward to spread love and light. So I prayed, and over the last year I have been working hard not to be snarky and clap back, but to respond with love and kindness, and as needed, block/delete. We have been getting more involved with our community and church as well as with donations to help those with financial needs around the world. So even though many people hated this New Year's Eve Tinsel Tree, the end result (ie the aftermath) was something I can't regret because it has led me to a more fulfilled life as I love giving back. And for those of you who love the tinsel tree for New Year's Eve, I'm so happy you like it and I hope you have fun creating your own for New Year's Eve!
