the brain is the source of consciousness. we can turn it on and off and affect it in different ways. sleep, death, psychedelics. there is NO consciousness outside the brain.

in the early days of Christianity, there were theologians who believed that Adam and Eve were originally Spirit Beings, and that when God "clothed" them after the Fall, that this is when humans became enfleshed and became mortal and limited and could experience pain in childbirth and endure suffering bringing forth food from the ground. This view was largely shunned during the rise of orthodoxy but it holds a persuasive power.
