not to be biased but my religion doesn’t trade my sense of purpose for being religious, yes worshipping god is the ultimate purpose but not the only one! On the contrary it pushes me towards exploring life and observing the world and learning as well as using the religious rituals as a tool to discipline yourself for a better fulfilling life!

I dont believe in purpose so with the idea of creating one feels very icky like my brain trying to gaslight my brain which doesnt work. Not saying this in a depressive way, its just the reality of existence to me. There are glimmers, pain and everything in between and then you die and we are so small cosmically and ideologically and trying to believe in a personal purpose sounds ridiculous to me I cant help it. Maybe its my audhd or its my years in academia or just trauma (in the end, what makes a person and their beliefs really?) idk but I hate lying to myself, its like believing in religions to me

So here’s my trouble: Life is short, then lights go out, worms go in and out you’re gone. Even if you leave a legacy of some sort, species get wiped out all the time. Suns go nova. The heat death of the universe is inevitable. So nothing anyone does will ever matter. Meanwhile, I don’t enjoy life. I want to leave it. I think I’m any universe in that was at all just, joy and meaning would present themselves automatically and unavoidably - not require concerted toil and weathering of hardship for most of a short and pointless life - and I don’t want to exist in an unjust universe. Why go through all of the constant, persistent effort to manufacture ersatz fulfillment for a few decades and then wink out to oblivion? What is the point? Why not just rip the bandaid off and go now?
