I agree to stop making people forgive. You can move on without forgiving unworthy people.

after a yr of weekly sessions I was abruptly told last night she can no longer see me....I need (she says) modalities she doesn't offer. No warning...just poof....we are done. She actually was surprised when I said no to having other providers reach out to me. No more therapy for me. I opened up and trusted just to be told .....we're done.

Catharsis inducing therapists suck. It’s all about them not the client. Makes the weak therapist feel powerful.

As a trauma therapist, COMPLETELY agree with all of these. That’s why I love the blend of EMDR and IFS. Great frame work for knowing which ones need processing and how to frame survival strategies in a compassionate way

Agreed. Some coping mechanisms were exactly what you needed.

In my experience, a lot of ‘trauma-informed’ therapists don’t actually understand the mechanics of trauma. You’re exactly right

Completely agree and I agree wholeheartedly that forgiveness is not a requirement. I actually think it’s unhealthy to do so before you’re ready (if you ever are). For me, channeling my pain > anger > fuel is what’s working so far 💗

my coping mechanisms definitely saved my life. In healing im in the process of seeing how the coping mechanisms are now keeping me stuck

Mental health is such a uniquely individual experience that there is no one pathway to healing what is helpful to one can be harmful to another

Another consideration: my abuser required catharsis as part of the abuse… that was tricky to untangle.

I’m a survivor of DV in a long-term marriage. There were so many different instances of trauma over so many years, and I had to accept that there was no way I was going to process and release all of it. I realized that that didn’t mean I couldn’t heal. And that’s ok.

I just said the last one to my therapist. I will never be mad at myself for the way I survived. I did it without losing my conscious or humanity. Now I can give that care to all those places in me as their reward and their rest.

heavy on the "forgiveness isn't a requirement for healing" too many therapists focus on this
