Allergies were almost unheard of because people’s immune system was too busy fighting parasites and diseases.

Also we have more diverse diets on average now a days. A random peasant could go their whole life without eating peanuts or shellfish.

People nowadays steer clear of foods they're all allergic to, why wouldn't they in the past lol.

Basically life has become so easy that now people with weak genes are able too procreate when in the past the weak would have died young🤪 basically it is no longer survival of the the fittest because the fittest made everything better

I had someone come to my restaurant, saying they are allergic to... mammals.
unfortunately we didn't have any androids to cook his food. we washed, sanitized, wore gloves and prayed for the best.

I’m pretty sure we’re getting allergies because the food isn’t organic that simple

Allergies are actually environmental. We know that if people immigrate to a country where allergies are common (like the US or the UK), their children are more likely to have allergies. You can do some clever statistics and prove that there is a gigantic environmental factor.

Well, my personal theory about allergies is that, first we have so much pollution in the air and partially in water and food that’s causing our bodies to be stressed about wrong things. And second our bodies miss the natural triggers for immune system reactions and training of those because we live in a much more „hygienic“ Surroundings than a medieval peasant or even a noble. One possible proof of that theory is that communities like the Amish in the US seem to have less Allergies then the average US citizen.

Also I hate the narrative that ppl before 1940 were just brainless toddlers, humans have existed for 200.000 years trust me they knew what allergies were by 1400 AD

Also in landlocked villages. Sure Tiffany the peasant was probably allergic to fish but there’s a high chance she never got to eat fish because transporting it to the tiny village she lived in was too expensive

Hard to be allergic to food when the body knows it can’t be picky if it wants to survive

Yeah BUT! People can develop allergies as adults sometimes too. Or develop conditions that make like dairy, make them really sick (no not just basic lactose intolerance but like ulcerative colitis kind of things)

my theory on my allergies are more common is this: everyone is so worried about allergies and they dint expose their small babies to foods like peanuts. even smelling peanuts. snd by the time they let the kid try nuts the body doesnt know what it is and the allergy is born ( im most definitely wrong tho)

It's seed company's fault we are experiencing so many allergies. Mono cultures of all of our staples. We need more genetic diversity.

THIS!!! My dad likes to say that didn’t have all these allergies and conditions where he came from and that it must be something wrong with America food but then also talks about how his mother was one of 12 children only 2 of whom survived childhood and he doesn’t see any connection between those things!

Matt :
Those who had severe allergies to foods common in those times most likely died very young because of anaphylactic shock. Not really survivable then and if they were severely allergic to common foods consumed then there wasn’t much anyone could do
