I feel like it's a great modern-day example of what happens in real life now. You can be going through some of the best individual changes and explorations in your life while you're single, and you can grow with your friends. All these different avenues for becoming a newer and better person; however, the second you get in a relationship with someone that you genuinely care for, or that you care for for a very long time, your focus shifts. Which means when you're telling a story, focus on one or two people. When their focus shifts from this individual mindset of "I need to become closer with my friends and be a better person and do all these things," when they shift their mindset to "I need to focus on my relationship or getting the girl or getting the boy or doing whatever they need to do," then they shift, just like in real life. Your mindset in your lifestyle and the way you act, move, and just are with people changes the second you get into a relationship or start liking people. Sure, it may be bad writing, but most of our lives are pretty bad writing, and I think that's one of the reasons why I like Star vs. The Forces of Evil so much growing up, because right around the time when she became boy crazy about Marco and they were just focusing on their relationship was around the time I began getting in my first relationships, and I understood the obsession. I understood the complete tonal switch in her life and in the show's character and how it felt and how it expressed itself, because the second I started liking someone or got in a relationship, I felt like my entire world was flipped upside down and the things I grew so used to doing every single day became unnatural.
