In one parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), there was a pastor who came with passion and vision. When he was first posted there, the church was very small — just a handful of members meeting in a modest space. Many people in the community did not notice the parish then, and some even doubted if it would survive. But the pastor had a burden in his heart. With prayer, fasting, and encouragement, he motivated the members to work together. Slowly, the little parish began to grow. Families joined, young people found direction, and the church became a place of hope. Through dedication and sacrifice, the pastor led the congregation in building a bigger, more beautiful church auditorium. What was once a small gathering became a vibrant center of worship. Then came the reality of RCCG’s structure: pastors are transferred from time to time. Just when the new building was completed, and the church was now flourishing, the pastor received his transfer letter. Some members were heartbroken — they had labored together with him, and it felt like a piece of their history was being taken away. Others struggled to understand why he would leave after achieving so much there. Yet, this is part of the RCCG tradition: no pastor “owns” a church; they are stewards. The work belongs to God. In many cases, pastors are moved from a thriving big parish back to a smaller church, to help build it up again. While it can be painful, it teaches humility and reminds everyone that ministry is about service, not possession. In the end, the pastor moved on in obedience. The church he left behind continued to grow under new leadership, while he went to another parish that needed his strength and vision. And through it all, the lesson remained clear: in RCCG, a pastor may plant, another may water, but it is God who gives increase.
