@cnetdotcom: Apple’s 40W Dynamic Power Adapter has a limited 60W Max output, but not every device can get that extra boost. CNET’s Bridget Carey explains what makes this charger unique and why it’s not a cheap accessory at $40. 🔌🪫 #apple #40watt #iphonechargers #phonecharger #Tech

You're joking right? 😂 I have 2 Android phone, 1 charge at 100W,the other 40W..even the free charger that comes with the phone knows to limit the charging to 40W on the 2nd phone.

It’s called PD - power delivery. It gives as much power as a device can take. This technology in all modern chargers. For example in Ugreen or Anker chargers

Wow another overpriced accessory from Apple. Great. Hey Apple can you make a wireless microphone and a folding phone and some things people will actually buy.

so it's a GaN charger that overheats... What in the .... is dynamic about that?? Any modern charger will base output power on the connected device's charging rate.

That’s PD(power delivery) protocol. Why is apple making a big deal out of this? This is old tech!!!

Laughing in my $500 POCO F7 Pro that takes 90W and I'm charging it with a 120W brick, but it works because phone is smart and the charger is smart and everything is years ahead of iPhone!
Did I mentioned that is has a Silicon Carbon battery?

You dont "send" watts, the device requests a specific voltage (There has been a standardized protocol for this for years, but apple doesn't use it...). Anyway, then the device can draw whatever current it wants, and power (watts) just is voltage * current. So a higher voltage just allows more power at the same current.

This is nothing new. Almost all higher quality chargers have this. It's an optional (unfortunately) part of USB PD named PPS (programmable power supply) that allows the device to take any voltage it wants within the limits of the charger.
Chargers without this can also regulate Voltage and Amps however it's not fine control and it would be something like 9V-Xamsp or 5V-Xamps.
