Before humans walked among the stars, animals paved the way. Meet Félicette, the first (and only) cat in space, and Laika, the brave dog who became the first living being to orbit Earth. Their stories are both inspiring and heartbreaking, but their contributions to space exploration will never be forgotten. 🐱 Félicette – The Space Cat (1963) In 1963, France selected a group of stray cats for spaceflight training. Among them was Félicette, a black-and-white cat who became the chosen astronaut. On October 18, 1963, Félicette was launched aboard the Véronique AG1 rocket, reaching a height of 157 km (98 miles) above Earth. Unlike Laika, Félicette’s mission was designed for survival—she safely returned to Earth after a 15-minute journey. Sadly, she was later euthanized for scientific study, but in 2019, a statue honoring her legacy was unveiled at the International Space University in France. 🐶 Laika – The Space Dog (1957) Laika was a stray dog from the streets of Moscow, chosen for a historic mission aboard Sputnik 2 on November 3, 1957. Unlike Félicette, Laika was never meant to return—at the time, scientists had no technology to bring her back safely. Tragically, she died within a few hours due to overheating, but her mission proved that living beings could survive the harsh conditions of space. A monument in her honor now stands in Moscow, reminding the world of her sacrifice. Both Félicette and Laika played crucial roles in space exploration, helping scientists gather important data that would later allow humans to travel beyond Earth. Their courage and sacrifice remain an important part of history. Would you have sent animals to space if you were in charge? Let me know in the comments! 🚀✨ #spacedog #spacecat #laika #felicettethespacecat #History #tragic #NASA #spacehistory #animals #fyp #scary #mystery #history #mind #terrifying #horrifying #HistoryTime #explore #explorepage #explorepage✨ #explorer #dog #cat #catsoftiktok #PetsOfTikTok #foryoupage❤️❤️ #foryo
