Janis didn’t fit into the mold of what a woman in music was supposed to be in the late ‘60s. She didn’t try to. She broke it apart completely. She sang without restraint. She performed like her life depended on it. She made space for women who didn’t want to sound “pretty” or “perfect” – just real. “I’d rather not sing than sing quiet.” We’re grateful she never did. ❤️
