@leahsykesdurrett: There’s a lot of conversation in parenting about “it takes a village,” but not as much about the beauty of being part of someone else’s village. If you wish someone would drop off a meal when you’re postpartum, bring flowers after a hard week, or meet up for a playdate when you just can’t do it alone, stop and ask: when was the last time I showed up in that way for someone else? The strongest villages are built when we all hold each other up, not just when we’re in need, but when others are too. We had the sweetest time making a sugar/artificial sugar free smash cake for my friend’s little girl’s first birthday.
