@garyvee: This one’s for the parents and the kids … parents … pay close attention to what you reinforce and kids who are now 18,22,30,35 think hard to what was being reinforced to you and start the process to redefine things for yourself ❤️ #fyp #genx #babyboomer #genz #garyvee
Parents, your influence shapes us more than you know. Kids, it's time to break the cycle and define our own paths.

As a parent I was always against participation trophies. So, no I didn’t create the monsters.

I didn't raise my 23 year old. She senior in college, works part time, volunteers at a local nonprofit. I instilled in her the value of hard work. No work no food

I’ve been saying this for years. It’s the parents fault 🎯💯🎯

if my children got participation trophies they would come home from the event and go straight to the trash can. Only ones that had 1.2.or 3 were kept. They tried harder the next time. Getting to play was their memory getting to keep a trophy was their reward for winning.I got lots of hate over this. I now have 2 very successful adults 👏

GenX Mom of 3 daughters here, ages 17-20, all self-sufficient, all working or in college. We didn’t baby them, we taught them to handle life. No participation trophies here just real life!

Taught my son you either Win or you loose there’s no great area to that! Keep practicing and trying harder! Teamwork

@Caroline Marie Maass: I don’t know that gen-x really was responsible for. Most of us were not in positions to direct competitions, would have been fledgling teachers at best - definitely not department heads. As a young coach I watched this unfold and I’ve gone toe to toe with parents explaining they can always be proud of their kids but there’s no celebration in a last place trophy.

He’s so right. When my son was 6 he got a medal 🏅 in baseball when his team was in last place. His response “why did I get a medal for losing”! He threw the medal in the garbage 🗑️He’s 13 now and still remembers that and says “I don’t want a medal unless I win”.

😉We're all learning out here none of us knew how to do it. Gen X overcompensated because of the lack of love and attention that the boomers gave them. & because millennials think they are so awesome that they must think their Gen z children are God.

Honestly I think I raised 3 GREAT GenZ kids all working and living outside the home. In addition 90% of their friends they grew up with also GREAT kids I think Gary’s narrative is greatly exaggerated

My daughter is a young woman paying her bills and standing on her own 2 feet! She worked hard and earned her trophies with her own blood sweat and tears.
