My favorite part is where the man with the beautiful hair explained a joke.

are you legally allowed to write slam poetry down? I thought it was improv, in the moment...

Given every joke in Ready Player One is just referencing something while completely misunderstanding it…this tracks

You say the author of Ready Player One made a surface level reference to a different better piece of media? That checks out.

As a game dev, RPO was so insulting. The game design was so bad and uninsipired. Like golden snitch level bad. I hated it, and everyone pushed that book on me because “oh you make videogames”

For half a second I confused the book “ready player one” with “Ender’s Game” and was prepared for some very different themes in that poetry.

I still cringe a little bit whenever I remember using "the Geek Wants Out" in high school speech team... did pretty well with it though.

this kinda feels like what scary movie is to scream or when people want South Park to parody an already funny happening in real life it's like that was already a joke to begin with

I am in good company. I DNF’d Ready Player One because it was so misogynistic and elitist and a bunch of my friends liked it!! 😭😭😭

Ready Player One is one of those few properties where I think the movie was better than the book. Not calling either good, but I think the movie was better

The thing I hate most about EK is that he created one of the most realistic dystopian future worlds (people escaping into VR to escape the real world with its terrible income inequality and dying planet) and then proceeded to completely misunderstand the core of his own fictional world’s problems and how to solve them

I don't know much about the author but I know Will Wheaton is the narrator for the audiobooks Ready Player One and Ready Player Two. I'm currently in the middle of Ready Player Two again.

partially due to this book which I read as a child I always thought that the original The Importance of Being Earnest was by Ernest Hemingway instead of Oscar Wilde

I have opinions about RPO. I gathered that one of the things it is about is how nefarious entities can manipulate and sedate us by senselessly packaging together things that make us nostalgic. After seeing the movie and witnessing that it was EXACTLY that, missing the point of the book entirely, I think maybe the book was also unintentionally a critique of itself

I don’t understand hating RP1. It was fine and was well above average for its genre and became wildly popular despite being dumb. I’m waiting for people to realize that The Three Body Problem was similarly stupid and overrated.

the only reason I got through RPO was because the Audiobook was read by Wil Wheaton. it really was just insufferable.

This is one of the compliments that mediocrity pay to those who are not mediocre — Oscar Wilde (as reported in “The Brooklyn Daily Times of New York” circa 1882)
