@lighthouse_weightlifting: We’re at a weightlifting gym, not a playground 😜 A common mistake we see with deadlifts is the “slide.” When coming down from the deadlift, many women ride the bar down their thighs instead of creating space between the bar and their thighs. This is no good for 2 major reasons: 1️⃣ Riding the thighs puts A LOT of stress and strain on the lower back, which can ultimately lead to injury. 2️⃣ Riding the thighs negatively alters the bar path. We want the bar to move in a straight vertical path, not an odd “S” path. 👍🏼 To eliminate the “slide” we need to initiate the descent by pushing our hips backwards (not bending our knees). This creates space between us and the bar. The bar should then move in a straight vertical line until it touches the floor while making sure to keep the glutes, hamstrings, and core engaged from start to finish. ✅ At LightHouse Women’s Weightlifting, we provide women valuable feedback on all lifts to allow them to move as safely as possible and see continual progression.
