Paul and Wings Few bands have ever defined a decade the way Paul and Wings did. Formed in 1971 by Paul McCartney, Linda McCartney, and Denny Laine, the band became the sound of the 1970s, with seven studio albums, countless hits, and a legacy that shaped modern rock. Among their early highlights were Live and Let Die, the explosive Bond theme, and My Love, a heartfelt ballad for Linda that remains one of Paul’s most beautiful love songs. That creative momentum led to Band on the Run, which was recorded in Lagos, Nigeria, under extraordinary circumstances. Paul and Linda were mugged shortly after arriving and lost their demo tapes, forcing them to rebuild the album entirely from memory. What could have been a disaster became a triumph, one of the most celebrated albums of the decade. By the time of the Wings Over the World tour, the band was performing to sold-out arenas long before stadium tours became the norm. That tour gave birth to Wings Over America, a live triple album, and the concert film Rockshow, capturing the magic of Paul in his 70s prime when his voice, songwriting, and charisma were untouchable (and still are). Wings embodied everything I love about music: reinvention, creativity, and the courage to start again when the world isn’t expecting it. Each song tells a story. Band on the Run was inspired by the idea of freedom and escape, blending melody and adventure. Let ’Em In opens the door to family and memory, name-checking loved ones and musical heroes. Listen to What the Man Said radiates warmth, written around the message that love is all we need. Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five was born from Paul’s fascination with the future, turning a distant year into a love song. The new WINGS collection feels essential for any fan. Featuring classics like Band on the Run, Live and Let Die, Jet, and Let ’Em In, it’s available in several formats. Here I’m showing the 2CD set and the 180g vinyl edition, both including a booklet with an introduction by Paul, artwork notes by Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell of Hipgnosis, and portraits by Humphrey Ocean. What’s your favorite song by Wings? #paulmccartney #paulandwings #vinylrecords #vinyl #music
