If we take race out of the concept of “colonization” we look at it through a different lens. It is about an imbalance of power. Most groups, whether tribal or organized into country or kingdom, have to expand at the expense of weaker others. In an agricultural or hunt/gather society it is about land. And when the birth rate is higher than the death rate, they must expand. Then there is the choice, kill or subjugate. Take it from there as far as the more moral choice. Add in religions that promote high birth rates and society has quite a conundrum.
