why isn't Slider's nutrition being supplemented so she produces more milk?

I know this video is a few days old but if all fails and you need to supplement I agree with the goats milk, I had to supplement a foal this past spring and all my equine vets said goats milk. We tried to get a nurse mare but mini nurse mares are incredibly rare in the part of Italy I’m from.

she'll aspirate using a syringe. the mare idea won't work, they're not cow's. horse's bond very closely with their own foals.

another sign of endophite toxicosis. Little production is the most common sign she has had fescue at some point, no milk production is a huge sign. I’m really surprised this is all going over the vets radar.

Did you have her tested for cushings? It’s the ideal time to test now.

Oooh so many questions now! Has this been an issue in her past? Will this be her last foal? Is Cushing hereditary ? 😳😳😳😳😳

I’m wondering if it had to do with the grass slider was on before you got her? I know we don’t have endophites here normally but maybe where she was before she got more into her system than she should have? So glad this is an easy fix! We will have a spunky baby before long I’m sure.

Have you given Donparadon (equidone gel) to stimulate milk production?

What is Cushings? Can you still breed a mini with it and be safe for the mare and baby??

I did do some research and there is abundant fescue grasses throughout Alberta. If mom did ingest too much it would explain the placentitis, her delivering and losing oxygen, and lack of milk production. I am hopeful she is cushings negative and all of this was endofite toxicity.

Maybe try a baby milk bottle until you're able to order an actual foal/goat bottle. So glad you have kinda figured this out & are getting baby everything she needs ❤

Also consider milking the other mare instead of trying to get the foal to nurse initially.

i know some farmers will do a little gator aid or suger water or use boost to help boost them along with milk replacement or goats milk could u order a bottle on line an it gets there faster
