I think the idea of manifesting comes from fitrah- people who rejected the Christian idea of God because it makes no sense still have the innate desire to ask whatever the most powerful is for what they think they want- it's not that same thing as duaa, but it shows our natural desire to cry out whatever we think our creator is and acknowledging "the universe" is not dead matter, but there is a powerful force out there that hears our voice.
