Genuine question…by screen time do you mean all screens? As most teachers teach using an interactive whiteboard which is effectively a giant screen.

My 3 year old has a tablet she watches daily. She interacts with people confidently daily, she’s confident, her speech is exceptional and she can count to 20 and recite most of the alphabet. No delay here

Screen time is not equal. Most schools can’t afford one device per child so they spend little time actually on a device like that, other than maybe in computing lessons. They do look at an interactive white board but this to me wouldn’t count as screen time

I think some uproar has also come from teachers feeling on their knees at the moment, they don’t need anyone else creating a narrative that their job is ‘easy’, or being done ‘badly’. I suggest looking at more schools if the ones you have seen have screen time and poor nutrition. We have an allotment and use the potatoes in the dinner hall! We only have iPads for coding in ICT and for photography topics in art. MOST teachers are doing an incredible job in a very very difficult climate

This is no hate whatsoever I love watching you but the whole screen time is a hard one because if you had a Neurodivergent child who thrives off learning how to communicate through screens or how to express their feelings through “devices” you wouldn’t say they couldn’t have it or it’s a treat…Screens and devices are how a lot of children express themselves we are lucky to have all these things to help our childrens development xx

Genuine question: does that mean you never have the tv on at home for yourself if he is there? Even if he’s not watching it and it’s on in the background, or no tv at all when he’s awake?

What about those children that need that extra support using technology e.g. those with SEN might use it to support their communication because they’re unable to communicate in a ‘conventional’ way

Just to add to your thoughts, my friends daughter has zero screen time. Doesn’t own a tv. But when she comes over to play with my daughter, she does NOT look up from the tv, she can’t multi task or listen to anyone else she is SO distracted - it’s actually gone backwards. She goes past a shop with a screen advert and she stops in her tracks and refuses to move. 😳

I’m not too sure what schools you’ve been looking at but I have 3 children in primary school and none of them get fed sugary foods and have lots of screen time. The only foods they’re allowed to take for snack time is fruit,veg or dairy. The only screen time is interactive whiteboard and occasionally they do ICT from year 1/2 but again, that’s not every week. I’m more concerned about the amount of jumpers they keep losing tbh😂

I am a primary school teacher and can tell you children are not given donuts etc. There are strict rules around lunch box contents, all snacks are fruit and veg only which is provided by the schools

I agree with you in theory but technological literacy is not the same as unmonitored screen time (which is what schools teach). But agree way too many kids are reliant on screen time at home!
