We've been fighting the brink of homelessness for 2 YEARS. All because the landlord wanted to raise rent. it really can just happen at the drop of a dime.
If we didn't have the miracles we had; we would be homeless and suffering right now. we're about to live in a van; but we thankfully found the resources we needed, and we're almost set to prepare for the worst of the worst. and thankfully this time; we'll have a vam

Not having a car is the same. People learn you don’t have a car and they treat you differently 😢

Adding to the convo: my clients, who are homeless, tell me that going to a shelter is not an option for them bc it's too loud, or too many people, etc. This exacerbates their mental health symptoms. Also, when their symptoms are exacerbated it can result in being kicked out of a shelter.

I was homeless but I had a car and a job, so I didn't "look" or "act" homeless. people were shocked when I would mention I actually lived in my car. my friendly coworkers who invited me to hangout and offered to let me stay on their couch when we were intoxicated, suddenly stopped even inviting me because once they found out I was homeless they thought I'd never leave if I stayed over (even though it hadn't been an issue prior and I only stayed maybe 2 nights a month). I was able to use public facilities without question even without purchasing something because I didn't LOOK homeless. there were a few times where an obvious homeless person was turned away from a bathroom and I absolutely challenged it with "I'm also homeless and you had no issue with me going in there though?" I was incredibly privileged to still have a vehicle and a job when I went through that period, and it absolutely changed how I look at the world.

You also learn how little your FAMILY actually cares about you. Anytime they call themselves “checking on you” it’s really just them being nosey. They literally don’t care and just want something to gossip about. My whole family is dead to me

if you hear somebody claim they were homeless and then they effectively say "worked really hard and got out of the pit" its a LIE. Those people have NEVER actually been homeless and they're using the "pull yourself by your bootstraps" mindset. So many people came at me with this and after awhile I saw right through it.

No matter how hard you try sometimes things happen outside of your control. You can try hardest to keep your job but they can still let you go sometimes of no fault of your own. Life is just hard.

I work in a psychiatric hospital and we have so many Patients who are homeless, who admitted himself just to have a roof in a place to stay and food and water, and I’ve heard of so many people in homeless people committing crimes to go to jail just to have a place to stay. People truly don’t understand until they are in a position.
