To people saying they want CarPlay: I almost didn’t buy a rivian because of that. After having one for 2 years now: rivian system is far superior to any car with CarPlay, by far. The experience is amazing. Just try it. Mapping is better, music is better, you even have YouTube (when parked) all coordinated super nicely (the music overlays the giant map). You can also read and send messages through your phone which is Bluetooth wired so everything works. It’s amazing, just go try it.

As a Tesla and rivian owner. Car play is trash compared to the ui they have. Now I prefer my Tesla ui than my wife rivian ui. Rivian has come long way but it’s still no Tesla software

Here’s an idea, work with Apple AND Google. If you persist in going your way, make sure your built in AI access all iOS apps, and leverage navigation through the phone. That is critical. There is no good need for navigation hardware and software to be in both phone in the car. If you gather any data in your car for your own purposes, that is something I would definitely have a problem with. If you need to leverage info for your AI to do stuff, have it take it from the phone.

A seamless digital experience is looking up an address on my phone and having it pop up automatically in Apple CarPlay the moment I get in the car. Not to mention the UI is THE SAME on any other car that has CarPlay or Android auto.

CarPlay just makes sense. No car infotainment I know of carries all music, podcast and audiobook apps. Please, try and create a great UI, but CarPlay and auto are currently needed (and keeps hands of phones while driving..)

Car Play and Android Auto is like a Chain Restaurant. You know what you are getting and the experience is going to be good regardless of the environment you are in. But a vehicle that foregoes that is like an independent restaurant it can be very good or much better than what you get in CarPlay. Plus you can make the argument that having it makes it harder to have good software in your vehicle…
