In indigenous culture (I am plains cree) it is said that women are so powerful during our luteal phase that we have to stay away from medicines, when in ceremony prayer, and we cannot touch instruments such as sacred drums, pipes, men's hair etc (I dont know the full teachings) because we can take power away or make the Medicine men/Women sick. It is a high time for prayer for us because we are so powerful during our period.
