Eldest Daughter is about being a millennial woman. Her lyrics are never meant to be taken so literally.

not gonna argue w you about the AAVE she shouldn’t have used it, but i’m not sure how it’s a dog whistle could you elaborate on that more? i can see a world where she just thought it was “gen z slang” which is still ignorant and tone deaf, but i don’t see how it’s a dog whistle? as for the meaning of the song i’m 90% sure it’s about being insecure with getting older, the first verse within the context of the music industry moving onto the freshest youngest coolest new thing, and the second verse about feeling like she’s running out of time to find the one. the choruses are more reassurance that “it’s ok i’m not as young and hip as i was before, i’m being myself and that’s enough, and it’s starting to work out.” overall she paralells these themes with her status as an eldest daughter, like being a role model to younger musicians. as for why there’s a lot of different interpretations out there right now, i think swifties are blinded by their need to relate to this song because they have big feelings about being an older sister and that’s what they wanted out of it, and theyre clinging to the literal interpretation of the title even though this song is barely mentions any actual family dynamics. i also could be completely wrong abt all of this i haven’t watched her interviews talking abt this song yet, but it makes the most sense to me
