This is how Americans come together. I feel bad for the people needing to get to their dying families or friends or even the people going to funerals... This may be a silly question, but do they not get paid back once the government is up and running or they just really never get paid for the whole time?

Air traffic controllers are working around 20 hours of overtime per week. After the last shutdown, they never got paid for that overtime. They only got their base pay. Government lost a lawsuits over this and SOME were paid SOME of that back.

Im flying tomorrow and I haven't gotten any emails yet. I was supposed to fly into burbank but them not having air traffic controllers made me change to a different airport. I'm packing my patience since I definitely don't blame these people at all!

My husband works for the FAA maintaining ATC equipment. He is “essential” therefor has to go work without pay. The FAA is now declining all requests for leave.
