I will never forget my first month out of school on a med surg floor. I had a patient that needed an iv (guy had the most fragile veins) and start an iv drip. I asked my charge nurse for help and I swear she said she was not there to teach me. I was both hurt that she wouldn’t help a new nurse and angry that she was willing to let a patient suffer to prove her point. After going to the u it manager (she couldn’t get the line) we ended up asking a nurse from icu to help. That I u nurse turned out to be one of my most valuable resources for the remainder of my stay on that unit

Oh hell no. Old nurse here, very protective of the new nurses. Have trained so many I can’t remember them all. My job is to help them! I want them to know everything I do, sometimes they teach me and I am always so proud of them. One day they may be taking care of me or someone I care about.
