The Man on the Fence Once upon a time, there was a man who could not decide between following God or following the devil. Both sides called to him, but he wasn’t ready to commit. On one side stood God, full of light, love, and peace, calling the man to walk in truth and life. On the other side stood the devil, wrapped in shadows, offering the pleasures of the world but hiding destruction behind them. The man thought to himself, “I don’t want to choose either one right now. I’ll just sit on this fence between them until I decide later.” So he climbed up and sat comfortably on the fence. He felt proud of his cleverness. He thought he had found safety in neutrality. After a while, God turned and walked away with His people. The man noticed that the devil didn’t leave. Instead, the devil walked right up to the fence and smiled. “You can come down now,” the devil said. The man looked surprised. “But I never chose you! I’m still deciding. That’s why I’m on the fence.” The devil laughed. “Oh, but don’t you know? The fence belongs to me.” And at that moment, the man realized that by refusing to choose, he had already chosen. ⸻ Moral of the Fable There is no middle ground with God. To sit on the fence is to side with the devil. God calls us to fully commit, for His plan leads to life everlasting.
