The problem in Water 7 isn't lack of gun control it's STATE VIOLENCE. It's hard to push responsibility into individuals when THE STATE controls and uses the VAST majority of weapons.

Now remember, this was made by a Japanese man. He's talking about these American concepts while not even being from here. This is how good Oda is with politics.

It’s also one of the first arcs to hammer home importance of Public Transportation in spite of disenfranchisement from the Government, with the Sea Train bridging the gap of neighboring islands that would be inaccessible or strenuous to meet otherwise. Which made it a major hub for trading.

I just started one piece a month ago and made it through water seven. This is one of the most political shows I’ve ever seen.

Water 7 is a Union town with the only full island that has an elected representative that isn't a king

I feel like it's more of a nuclear bomb/ mutually assured destruction kinda thing. for some reason I feel Japan makes a lot of stories about that

this being about gun control in specific is a very modern American lens but not necessarily wrong. look up the Japanese connection to war ships like the zero and the more broad connection to war machines and nuclear power. there is some connection to the view warlords had to the katana as well. scientific progress and war have long had a push pull relationship in Japanese media since at least Godzilla.

Wow, this can be directly tied to recent events in the story too. I love how consistent Oda’s politics have been throughout the whole story (besides arguably his designs of queer characters having better taste as the story progresses)
