John Wierwille, a sheep farmer, sprang out of bed on Nov. 4 when he heard coyotes yipping outside his home. But by the time he made it outside to check on his flock, his fearless sheepdogs were already standing guard. The dogs had herded five sheep into a corner of the fence for protection. Casper, who Wierwille said had never been aggressive toward other animals, stood at the front of the pack, watching the 11 coyotes. Keeping the herd and his pregnant partner in crime Daisy, safe. Casper, a 21-month-old Great Pyrenees, soon led a counterattack and hopped a four-foot fence. Over the next several minutes, Casper killed eight of the 11 coyotes on his property and chased away the rest. The five sheep remained unharmed. Casper was missing for 2 days until he emerged from the chicken coop the morning of Nov. 6. "They won't stop until they feel that their family's safe," he added. "They will give up their lives for their family, so to speak." LifeLine Animal Project, a nearby shelter, raised enough to cover $15,000 in medical fees to amputate Casper's tail and repair deep puncture wounds and patches of torn skin. Casper wagged his stump of a tail when he was reunited with Wierwille. "We have to figure out what his new purpose will be," Wierwille said. "It's been a long road, and there's a lot more road to go for us, but we'll do it together. I'm glad to have him." #storyteller #wojak #fyp #History #sadstory #story
