I wouldn't trust having an electronic Google device on my wall, I'd feel like I was being spied on. Out of poorness I drive a 2010 vehicle and now I'm glad I do, new cars are recording everything in your car. Why wouldn't they do that in your house then?

I’m a 27 year HVAC tech fully certified by our federal government and I’ve never installed a NEST thermostat, not even one. I knew when they first came out that they were going to be a big problem and now my prediction washed up one your beach. I’ve faithfully use Honeywell but now that I’m retired I’m not up on the nuances of their planned obsolescence, if it happens my thermostat will come off the wall and I’ll go back to the old way.
