@bet.you.i.am.bek: Situational Mutism, also called Selective Mutism or speech loss, is relatively common among autistic individuals. While Selective Mutism is the formal clinical term - classified as an anxiety disorder - many autistic people prefer the term Situational Mutism because it better reflects their experience. They don’t choose when they lose the ability to speak... it happens automatically in response to stress, overwhelm, or certain social environments. This is something I have struggled with my whole life. #situationalmutism #selectivemutism #autism #autistic #speechloss
I just forget the words of things but I decribe what it is my mom and sister always figure it out when I need something.

my friends know how to help me when it comes to doctors visits since i cannot speak on official things like doctors office diagnosis and sometimes with front desk receptions, so my friends know enough to know what i want and I can't go without them otherwise i have to figure out what to do to get them to understand what i want

Okay i def don’t have this one at least. I’ll intentionally stop talking for periods, but I’ve never found my voice actually failing me

As an autistic adult who grew up in the early and mid 2000s I just called this selective mutism because sometimes talking takes too much energy and people are already taking so much from me so my speech is all I can control in that situation.

There was a child in one of the classes I assisted in and it broke my heart and one day she just started talking to me and I praised God so much for that!

I'm an autistic adult and I typically experience this when I am hyper emotional (typically sad crying and trying to explain something)

Sometimes in those moments I wish I could be non verbal forever. Like trying to communicate and being misunderstood is so exhausting. It’s so hard to get words out at first after this happens
