@the.essay.clinic: Uni loves to say lectures are interactive, clear, and prepare you for assessments. Reality? Monologues, endless slides, and assignments that don’t even match. No wonder everyone walks out more confused than they walked in. #unilife #studentsbelike #ukuniversity #backtouni

I got a first with less than 60% attendance. As long as you're a good essay writer and you understand academic writing you'll literally be fine

Lectures are to teach you the theory and the concept. In uni you are adults you are expected to be doing independent reading to build on what is being taught. So of course lectures are the tip of the iceberg. If you are choosing to scrol on TikTok during a lecture, that is your choice, if you actually engage your mind to the session, you will achieve so much more than just “pointless stuff that don’t come up in the exam”. They are not meant to be interactive! They are meant to condense huge amount of information in 1 hour chunks! Maybe sometimes there would be space for interactivity, but if you are being taught a dense topic, you wouldn’t want the lecture to cover 1/10th of what it should to instead incorporate an “audience conversation” segment

Idk what uni you’re going to or what you’re studying, but none of these are true for me. I get most of my info from lectures, info that’s actually relevant, seminars are the useless ones. And for me, lectures are just as interactive as l seminars, we’re often asked questions or get assigned short tasks, or we have to talk to the person next to us.

university is the only education you have to pay for and it has the worst teaching. if I'm paying them to teach me, I shouldn't have to go read books afterwards they should have already told me the information I'm paying for

I didn’t write notes in uni but then again my memory is really good. Got a first class. Long as you can critically analyse you’ll be fine.

If you want spoon feeding then university is not for you. It’s about taking control and being responsible for your learning. If you are not curious about your field of study then why are you there. You are expected to understand certain core areas and encouraged to critically analyse work. This means you have to give yourself time to think.

For my course we're doing flipped learning where we basically have a lecture to watch before the lecture. Then in the lecture it's going over example questions and reinforcing the information. It's much better than usual lectures

no university has ever told anyone that you will learn everything for your lectures. Why do you think the terminology used to be "reading for a degree". of course you have to work independently
