@musicwithmrsjimenez: Hispanic Heritage month is wrapping up (ends Oct 15) and I’ll be doing these activities with my students the next 5 school days. 🎉 1️⃣ Los Machetes Dance ⚔️ I usually show my students a quick clip of people from Mexico using real machetes while they dance and then say something like “they’re professionals who have many years of practice. We will be doing our own version with rhythm sticks!” I then use the Youtube video from Katie Kraft’s Tots with Tempo to teach them this dance and we do it all together in a big circle around the room. 2️⃣ Bate Bate Chocolate 🍫 I teach my students the words first and then we all sit in a circle and use a large stretchy band while we do this song/chant. I bought my stretchy band on WestMusic.com 3️⃣ Piñata 🪅 This song from MusicK8 is so cute and I just added these little hand motions/dance moves to make it more fun. I also have a real piñata displayed (which I have left over from my chorus concert last year when my students did this song) 4️⃣ La Raspa (or Mexican Hat Dance)💃🏻 is always a hit and I like using the video from Patty Shukla Kids TV on YouTube. 5️⃣ Slideshow featuring Hispanic musicians and singers 🎤🎸 This can be found on my TPT store! I also have a bulletin board version that my kids have been seeing in the hallway the past month. Let me know what you like to do with your students during Hispanic heritage month! 🇲🇽🇵🇷🇨🇴🇨🇺🇦🇷
