congress and the senate don't have to skip pay. if Trump made an executive order to stop pay, protection, and luxury car payments for them during the shutdown it would immediately end

BAH...the military provides a 95% coverage for housing off of base. Also during a government shutdown most Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits and military retirement pay continue without interruption. Most military members who are active duty understand that these things happen.

We’ve been through shutdowns before and we’ll get through this one too. Pay is always back paid once funding resumes. SRCA and Family Readiness Programs are still active to help with essentials like housing, food vouchers, utilities, child care, and counseling. The VA is still open for appointments, prescriptions, and benefits, and TRICARE remains fully operational so no one is going without medical care. We’ve handled this before and the support systems are in place for our service members and their families. That’s what readiness really means.
