I’m a MASSIVE fan of the previous New Balance race offerings, the RC Elite was an incredible shoe and I also enjoyed the SC Elite v3 (I missed the v4). Pending my first run, here’s an overview of some of the key features: The SC Elite V5 cuts weight (~ 210 g / 7.4 oz in men’s US 9.5) while delivering a more aggressive ride than V4. Its midsole is built with 100% PEBA FuelCell foam, paired with a scooped carbon plate, engineered for energetic pop and a quick transition. With an 8 mm heel-to-toe drop (40 mm heel / 32 mm forefoot stack), it’s now steeper and more driven than earlier versions. The upper leans ultra-light with a slim mesh build and a redesigned heel collar for better security at speed. On the road, it’s bouncy and responsive but a bit firmer underfoot than the v4 - perfect for tempo runs, intervals, and race efforts.
