Even though they knew in the late 80s/early 90s it wasn't transmitted in the air, I remember visiting my mom's coworker on the AIDS ward. The nurse tried to stop my mom from letting me in the room. I learned a lot after about HIV/AIDS from this experience.

HIV research and medication is incredible! The oldest person with HIV lived to 100 and with medication the virus can be suppressed to Undetectable levels. Some people have been cured of HIV but that involves a difficult bone marrow transplant and not everyone can qualify.
