4 lbs. Jump Rope - age 54, May 8, 2023, 11:19 am 🌺CAUTION: THIS VIDEO IS FOR DEMONSTRATION PURPOSES ONLY. THIS EXERCISE CAN BE DANGEROUS. I haven’t jumped the heavier @crossropejumpropes for a while, but my workouts have been pretty flat footed and lacking in speed and agility, so today they came out. I warm up with a 1 lbs. rope for 5 minutes, then 2 lbs. for a minute before I grab the 4. For me, once the rope gets above 2 lbs., the inherent physics change this into a totally different exercise. As the RPMs increase, centrifugal force multiplies the force that the rope imposes on the grip internal rotators of the shoulders, and mid air displacement of the entire body. At 4 lbs. and up, I can feel the rope lift me up towards the sky as it arcs down in front of me. Once it passes under me, hopefully without catching a toe, it now pushes me hard into the ground as I accelerate it upwards. The heavy ropes also take a lot more time to run full circle which demands a much higher jump to give it time to come around. Crossing the rope on a boxer step now takes the aforementioned force vectors and slaps them diagonally across the body on a compromised base which adds an omnidirectional challenge that requires a lot of mid air adjustments to prevent being pushed off the mat. Dealing with all that gets me tired quickly, so I do many sets of low reps. This feels like dancing with a long, languid pair of nunchucks, and the risk of slamming my toes is my teacher, reminding me to stay focused on the task at hand and not getting so tired that I lose control. Plus, it was a beautiful day🌴 Much aloha 🌺
